It's a Healthy Boy!

Week 18 Ultrasound picture

News

We're having a boy! We had the anatomy ultrasound on Monday, the 18th. We immediately called our parents to tell them the news. We did tell our best friends and co-workers last week, but we waited to post on fb and tell our families until Easter Sunday. After we said the blessing for the food, we made the announcement at my Auntie's house. We also shared that his name will be Lincoln Hollis . We were also given some used clothing and gear yesterday. His room is starting to get full and we haven't even set-up the furniture yet!

18 Weeks

Now that you're in the full throes of the second trimester, you're feeling—and looking—fabulous. So don't waste it! See friends (they've missed you since you moved your bedtime up to 7:00 p.m.), plan romantic dinners with your partner (you will miss those when junior arrives) and get active. Waterskiing might be a little too much but swimming and taking long walks are great for you and your bambino. What You're Thinking "Either I have an ongoing case of indigestion or there might actually be something moving around my gut!" Your Body At about 18 weeks, you might begin to feel a suspicious flutter in your belly. The professionals call it "quickening," we call it "baby's makin' waves!" Within the next few weeks, those tiny bubbly feelings will become more obvious. And soon enough they'll be unmistakably identifiable—especially when you (and anyone within 10 feet of you) can see tiny feet, elbows and knees moving across yo

Elimination Communication

Elimination Communication is sometimes called Infant Potty Training, but it really is a little more and a little less than that. The name Elimination Communication sums up exactly what it is about, communication with our very young children about their elimination needs. Think about it, your child found ways very early on to communicate with you about other needs like being tired or hungry. Their elimination is really no different. Babies are born with the instinct to not want to lay in their own waste, just like other mammals. By being kept in diapers, we train them to tune out that instinct. ( http://clothdiapers.blogspot.com/2008/07/elimination-communication.html ) I watched a couple videos about EC last night. I first heard about it at our cloth diapering store. In the videos, I saw a 5-day-old, 5-week-old and 3-month-old use the bathroom in the toilet or a bowl. Babies give signals that they need to use the bathroom like squirming or grunting. Also, their schedules can be tra

Maternity Clothes

Image
Joe and I went to Re*Blossom on Saturday because we saw a fb status that they had received more spring/ summer clothes. I have two pair of jeans, a denim skirt and shorts already so I felt like I had enough to cover my bottom half. We were blessed to find so many tops at the mama and baby reuse store. All them are from Motherhood. It's true! I crave them! My bathing suit top a flowy skirt a beautiful black dress a black tank top Sunday, Joe and I went to the mall so I could fitted for a bra. I have grown quite a bit since the pregnancy. We didn't purchase one at Victoria's Secret because they are $42. I know what size to look for now. We looked at Motherhood while we were in the mall and I found a few shirts and dresses I like there too. We'll probably go back on Thursday to get some us both some clothes from the mall. With Easter coming up in two weeks, this caught my eye: It looks like two pieces, but it's not

Week 17

Speaking of packing on the pounds, that what it's all about for baby this week. He's adding fat stores that will keep him warm and cozy after he's born. Your baby's weight will increase approximately six times over the next four weeks. Good to know you're not the only one tipping the scale. Also this week: Your baby is hard at work honing his sucking and swallowing reflexes—all the better for eating that 2 AM (and 5 AM, and 8 AM ...) meal in a few months! The finger- and toenails are beginning to grow from their nail beds, which would explain why he'll need them trimmed almost as soon as he's born! Your baby weighs nearly 5 ounces and is a little over 5 inches long—about the size of a baked potato (load on the butter and sour cream, please).

Kitchen Remodel

Image
When I was home for spring break, Joe and I planned for him to remodel the kitchen. We hated the one for so many reasons. 1) small, 2) so dingy and yellow, 3) not enough cabinet space, 4) the linoleum floors with stained and tearing. This is before This is after Joe has over 10 years experience working with tile and flooring. Now we have dark wood laminate flooring and a beautiful back splash and tile counter tops. We also bought all stainless appliances (microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator). We already had the stove. The Lord financially blessed us with our income taxes so we didn't have to finance or put any on credit. Of course, we saved a lot of money with Joe doing the labor. We both tip toe around afraid to mess anything up. =)

Bottles- Breastflow

Image
Deciding on the bottles we are going to use was a tough choice. I wanted it to be an eco-friendly bottle, also something that mimics a breast since I am planning on breastfeeding. When I pump milk, the milk would need a bottle that Joe could use for feedings too. The Breastflow bottle requires suction and compression just like feeding from a breast. Luckily, they are offered at Target so I was able to put them on the registry.

16 Weeks

Your baby is already mugging for the camera as she practices all sorts of facial expressions, such as squinting, yawning and grimacing, which will come in handy when you introduce her to pureed spinach. Check out what else is happening in utero: You're just getting comfortable with being a new mom, but you're actually on the road to being a grandma. If your baby is a girl, her uterus is fully developed and the ovaries already hold primitive egg cells. Did that just make you feel a thousand years old, or what? Your baby's skin is still translucent and wrinkly, not unlike an old man's, but more fat will soon accumulate under the dermas to plump her out. If you could peer inside right now, you'd be able to see all of her veins under her skin. And speaking of veins, your baby's heart now pumps about 25 quarts of blood per day, and she hasn't even seen Orlando Bloom yet! Also, her eyes are now locked and loaded at their final destination, facing forward rathe

Hypnobirthing

Today we visited another pregnancy center called Full Bloom on Milledge. They offer classes such as breastfeeding, birthing, and diapering, mother and child play times, prenatal yoga, book lending, and selling products. We went to browse the products as well as ask about classes. Since we are interested in a natural birth, we are interested in the hypnobirthing class. The class teaches how to relax and not fear the pain during labor. Women have given birth in 5 hours using this method. We are going to see between which months are the best time to take it. It is a 5-week course for $200.

Wooden Toys from Etsy

We are interested in wooden toys since we would be supporting the workmanship of a craftsman. Also, wooden toys are natural and durable. Here are some products that we like from etsy (all things handmade): a rattle keys a teether toy
