Progress on my Mom's sweater

Image
As of today, I have about 6 more inches to knit on the bottom and then I can move to the sleeves. I want to finish by the end of August so I can get it to her before cool weather arrives. Actually, living in Beaufort, I will get it to her in plenty of time. It looks like a cropped sweater right now.

This is the progress on my Librarian Capelet. The reviews I read said that the pattern in written for a 10-year-old so I am wondering if it will even fit me. If not, I will sell it in my etsy store. I love working with Noro Furisode. My husband wants some house slippers in the fall/winter. I found this pattern on Ravelry written by Melissa. I am excited and my husband is excited to pick out his yarn. I've been looking at the Malabrigo Yarn website and I see so many hanks that I want! The colors are amazing. I want to make sweaters and slippers and legwarmers galore. I'm most interested in the Rasta and Aquarella collections.

Short Circular Needles

Image
One day when I was walking around Hobby Lobby, I saw short circular knitting needles on a clearance rack. I believe the package said sock needles. I should have inspected them more. I would love making socks, gloves, and legwarmers, but I hate knitting in the round with double point needles. I haven't seen them since in stores so I did an internet search this morning. I found these at Halcyon Yarn for $12.95 for a size 0-5 in 9in. The size 4 & 5 are $10.95. Also, I found size 10 in 8in for $4.95 on the same website.

News

Summer Break Summer vacation is coming to an end. I found out yesterday that I have to attend two days of district training for a reading and math program that I didn't go to last year. The district is hosting it on the two furlough days (29 &30) next week. We will be given a stipend for working on furlough days. The training is all day (8am-4pm). From what I've heard from my colleagues that attended last year, it is a waste of time and could be done in less time. I will most likely be implementing the program with a group of kids because of my new position next year so I need to know how to do it. Unfortunately, my summer will be cut two days short. Doctor Appointment I had my yearly pelvic exam yesterday...I always dread them and glad that they are once a year and do not last long. He said everything looked good and we talked about conception. After getting off the scale, I decided to do something about it. I put on 15 pounds since being there last year (after the hon

In Business

Well, I started my etsy store a few months back and have had sales from people I knew. Friends on facebook would make a request and then I would make the item and place it on etsy for the transaction. I made a dress for my niece, Macy, who is 3 months old today. I mailed the dress to my niece knowing she wouldn't be able to wear the dress until next summer because it was quite big. I made up the pattern and just sewed it. I purchased the bandanas and ribbon at Hobby Lobby. Joe encouraged me to make more and sell them in my etsy store. I bought more supplies and made four one afternoon. My sister-in-law gave me the Macy's measurements for 3-6 months so I made a Clemson dress with 3-6 months as practice. I listed it in my etsy store and it sold within a few hours to someone I didn't know in Iowa!! I am making another 3-6 month dress for a co-workers daughter today. She met me at Hobby Lobby yesterday to pick out what she wanted. I plan to do that one today and my niece&#

knitscene easy magazine 2010

I was at Borders on a Friday night with my husband and I walked straight to the magazine section. I picked up two knitting magazines and purchased both. I've only read one so far so I am only going to share about that one right now. This is the first time I have read knitscene easy  and from what I've read, this is a special edition designed for beginners. Women of the Bible

I have been trying to learn more about the women of the Bible. I have a devotional that dedicates a week to each women. I've been doing one a day instead. I have plenty of time over the summer and I do not spend enough time in the Word anyways. Deborah [name means Honey Bee] was a judge, prophetess, and a political leader in her time. She heard from God and had courage that aroused the people, even men (Barak). She noticed the lack of male leadership in Israel. She called herself "the mother of Israel". Her story can be read in Judges 4-5. Jael [name means A Wild or Mountain Goat] was in charge of tents. They were in a war and the commander was the only survivor. He (Sisera) was on the run on foot. Jael was watching from her tent. She invited him in for hiding. After she gave him milk and covered him up to sleep, she picked up a tent peg and hammer and drove it through his temple to kill him. She was decisive and courageous. You'll see how Deborah and Jael are con

Carpal Tunnel

I've had carpa l tunnel a couple times in my life. Mine is caused by repetitive motions. I first got it from making ice cream for Bruster's Real Ice Cream . I carried large buckets the same way, stirred ingredients, and turned 5 gallon buckets in the same motion as the ice cream was dispersing. I read to elevate the wrists and put ice packs on the wrists to help heal. Around the same time I was moving to Athens, so lifting a lot of boxes and repetitive motions of cleaning didn't help the healing. When we moved into this house last year, it popped up again while we were cleaning and painting. That scrubbing motion of the wrist aggravated it. Now, I feel it when I knit! I was thinking, "Can that be possible?"   Wh en I was in Hobby Lobby, I saw therapeutic glo ves in the needle work section and it said it is worn for embroidery, quilting, and knitting and crocheting and any craft with the repetitive movements. I already have one of those stretchy splint gloves be

Monday, July 5

The 4th of July is my favorite holiday. Since I have lived in Athens, GA, it hasn't been as fun. When I was living in Beaufort with my family, we would always spend the day at the beach or a pool. Then we would have a cook-out and go to a fireworks show on the water. The last two have not been as fun since celebrating here is not quite like celebrating on the coast. Actually, last year it was better. We played 23 holes of disk golf, ate lunch at a great restaurant, played bocce ball, and watched a fireworks show at a park. This year, we decided to make sure we plan something so it IS fun! Friday night we went to an Atlanta Braves baseball game at 7:35pm. It was a good game and went into extra innings. The Braves won 4-3. I sat by an old Asian man who was there by himself. He always did the tomahawk chop and didn't say a word the whole game. Now that is the kind of spectators I like sitting beside! He did give me a high-five when they won, wrote the stats down, and left before

My Yarn Room

Image
I have been wanting a place I could organize my stash. I was eyeing an antique table that would serve as a work bench. This table actually was a work bench in a man's shop because it used to have a vice hooked to it. On Thursday, Joe surprised me by bringing the table home so I could set up. I call it my "yarn store" and occasionally be walks in the guest bedroom when I am winding yarn and pretends to be a customer working on a project and needs advice. I have my yarn wound now, a spot for my knitting books, magazines, and patterns, and my needles all in one spot. So as I start planning a project, I can look through my supplies and get everything ready. I will get a swift one day too. A swift is used for winding skeins into balls. I took mine to Main Street Yarns & Fibers so I do not need one at the present time and they are expensive. The one I want is on Amazon for $51.99. I also have a spot to cut out material and paint!
