Matters of the [breast]

Around July I felt a lump in my breast. It was right before the move, I think. I was exclusively breastfeeding and Grey had thrush. I've had clogged ducts before so I know how painful those feel. This was not painful, just a knot. I thought I would keep an eye on it and see if it went away from nursing. Sometimes babies pull clogs right out from the suction. Since I pump so much, I feel the tissures of my breasts often. Around October it was still there. I told my mom and my mentor at school and they both told me I should probably see someone soon. After calling a few gynecology offices and having a 2-week to 1 month wait, a receptionists told me my quickest solution would be to visit an urgent care facility. That night I went to Doctor's Express down the street from my house. I saw an older doctor who examined me (with a nurse watching). He wrote an order for a mammogram at the Women's Imaging Center at Beaufort Memorial and follow-up with a surgeon. Two weeks later, a

I need to get it off my mind

I've been wanting to write for a while. I feel like I start every blog like that. It's true. Everyday I feel like I need to journal so I don't complain on FB. Just like everything else in life; there is never enough time. I take that back. It's just a matter of prioritizing what time we do have. I had two students stealing Friday. One, six Band-Aids! We need to figure this out before you end up somewhere" (because this is the 4th known incident with this kid). Another kid responded, "Yeah, in jail!" I have a 9-day break from school- Thanksgiving break. I am thankful for it! I am settling in and enjoying my job...finally. All the changes at once were rough on me emotionally-a new baby, the move, and a new school/district. With changin

Our birth photographer owns a mama and baby consignment store in Athens. She wrote the following in her newsletter to her clients about Grey's birth: Dear friends, There are very few things in life that seem perfect. But on Saturday, June 22 nd , I witnessed one. I was invited to photograph a birth, a very special birth planned at home as a VBAC: vaginal birth after Cesarean. At 8:42 p.m. , after putting my girls down and getting in my jammies, I received a text from Rebekah: “Water broke, everyone is on their way to the house.” Oh, my goodness!!! I turned to Danny, asked for permission to escape the house, threw on clothes (what do you wear to a birth?) and grabbed camera equipment. I was nervous. I said a little prayer everything would be just fine for the mama and the baby in her belly. And it was… picture-perfect . I saw the midwives of Morning Glory Childbirth Services listening to the baby’s heartbeat, using their wristwatches to count the beats and brewing coffe
