Dreaming of snakes

Image
I've always been fascinated with dreams. I've prayed that God would give me the gift of interpretation like he did Joseph in the Bible. I've owned a dream journal and dream dictionary in the past to look up adjectives and nouns from my dreams. Never gained a whole lot of insight from them though. Similar to the green snake in my dream I found out that most of our dreams included things we thought of or saw in our waking day.  I was getting ready to say that I haven't thought about snakes recently, but just remembered that my neighbor told me about a huge dead snake in the road at the entrance of our neighborhood 5 days ago and I've thought about it since.  In my dream, snakes were curled up and stretched out everywhere. They would appear and disappear under furniture. One did strike at me and bite me as I was running by it. I was so paranoid-standing up on furniture, afraid to walk anywhere, looking over my shoulder and under my feet constantly. I

Breaking the Habit

I remember sucking my two middle fingers when I was a kid. I was old enough to remember so I was old enough. I also bit my fingernails. My parents used a nasty tasting polish to paint on my nails and took my skating doll away when I sucked my fingers. They put her up in the closet. I remember I was determined to get her back so I put my fingers under my pillow and didn't do it again. As a 4th grade teacher in Athens, there was a girl in my class that still sucked her thumb. Her nail was mildewed and bumpy from being wet all the time. This is when Lincoln decided he prefered his fingers over a pacifier When Lincoln came out of my womb, he had a hickey on his arm from sucking it while he was waiting to come out. So when he started sucking his fingers a few weeks old, it didn't surprise, especially since I sucked the same two fingers myself. THEN Lincoln discovered satin tags on blankets, stuffed animals, and clothes. He rubbed the tags on his lips and nose. It co

Little Free Library

Image
I'm trying to think about where I first saw a Little Free Library...I'm not quite sure. Maybe in front of an elementary school...I know there is an empty, eccentric one on Bay Street. Anyways, I like books, reading, libraries, the places the books take you, the people you meet, and the events you experience, which prompted my desire to charter a book rental in our neighborhood. I went to littlefreelibrary.org to order my information packet, a sign (metal or wood), and charter number for $40. It takes about 3-4 weeks for everything to arrive. The envelope included marketing materials, a bumper sticker, and a button. I wanted to repurpose something instead of starting from scratch. I liked the idea of a cabinet that already had a door on it. Habitat for Humanity ReStore had a room of miscellaneous doors, windows and cabinets so I found one that was pretty massive made of particleboard. It had been white washed, which served well as my primer. $5 cabinet from Habitat f

Before & After

Image
These are the two pictures I have taken recently to document my before & after weight loss. Over the last year, I have realized how closely related physical and mental health is. I do not think I am weak because I have experienced depression in my life, but I view myself as strong because I sought help instead of taking my life. That is not something to ashamed of.
