Day trip

Image
Inspired by jaykayknits, Joe and I ventured to Madison, GA today for sightseeing and shopping. I was looking for a chair for the guest bedroom. I found a couple that I liked, but we didn't purchase one yet. I was also looking for buttons for my baby booties. Actually, on our way home, we stopped in Bishop and happened upon this jar for $8. We found a rug for the office. The dress was so simple and flowy. It made me wish for spring. I had to take a picture of the massive lamp. We bought these memory books for fishing trips, dining experiences, and camping destinations. This porcelain mug was purchased at Laughing Moon. I have seen them before, as a matter of fact, I almost purchased them for my bridesmaids. It looks like you are drinking from a coffee shop mug, but this one is reuseable.
I started out enjoying my Exceptional Child course on Tuesdays. I am learning a lot that will be helpful for my job. I only have three weeks left, but I am thankful. Going to class after a day of teaching is emotional and physically draining. One class fall on March 9th, which is my spring break and my husband's birthday. I also have to make a 1 hour presentation that night!! As a matter-of-fact, I came home last night and stayed up for 30 minutes before going to bed. I was tired and starting to feel sick. I am at school right now. My students are taking a 70 minute quarterly benchmark on the material taught during quarter three. I have a lot of time to kill so I thought I would blog to help me relax. I periodically get up and walk around the room for proximity and check on the status of the test (ie. who is rushing, who will definitely need the whole 70 minutes, make sure they are coloring in the correct bubbles, etc). I have to teach equivalent fractions in math after the tes

Race Day

Image
I have a 5K in less than two hours. I will be heading to Sandy Creek Park to register early. I am anxious about the race. I haven't even walked 3 miles for exercise recently. I know I can do it, just not prepared. I have to keep reminding myself that I am not trying to make a PR (personal record) so I shouldn't feel pressure. The weather is awesome so I am am just going to enjoy the sights and sounds. I'm not even taking music to listen to. Joe bought me Iron Girl sunglasses at Academy the other night as inspiration. My goal is to do an Iron Girl one day. I registered two years ago and couldn't bring myself to train for it. I'm hoping by doing this race today that I will fall in love with racing again and continue setting goals for myself. There is an Eco-adventure race in April that I did last year and I would enjoy doing it again. I just need to start preparing and finding my teammates. I have to start somewhere, right? RLWH

My first baby booties

Image
I gave the booties to my co-worker today. She cried and hugged me. She is going to the hospital tomorrow to be induced. This is her first child so it is exciting. We collaborate for reading and writing. She serves my special education students so she is going to be greatly missed while she is on maternity leave. I hope the long term sub is good!

Package in the mail

I received four hanks of yarn today! I'm home infront of the fire. Glad to be home and in bed in 45 minutes.

Tuesday again...

Thankfully, I had a break last Tuesday from my night class. Monday night I was sad by the fact that I had to go back to teaching today and then my class from 4:00-9:00pm. I only have four more classes to attend. My husband is working overnight in Savannah so I will be home alone, which is not my favorite thing. The dogs are at daycare and I miss them. I would rather them be able to socialize and be together while I am gone all day so it is for the best. RLWH

Goal Update

Image
I have half a month to complete my February goals. I am doing a 5K next weekend (February 21). I am doing the Frog Hop 5K @ 2:00pm. http://www.active.com/running/athens-ga/12th-annual-frog-hop-5k-and-1-mile-2010 Today I hung the stencils in the master bedroom and guest bedroom. I am pleased with them and the guest room in coming together quite well. I still have a lot to do though.

Snow 2010

Image
The land is so beautiful to look at, so cleansing and perfect. We will attempt to walk around today, but honestly I do not want to mess it up.

Deja vu Merino worsted yarn

Image
This is supposedly the same yarn although it doesn't look the same. This is the yarn I bought for my mom's sweater. I needed 4 hanks and whatever I have left, I will recycle.
I'm so excited for a weekend. I plan to knit, enjoy the snowy sight, go see 'Valentine's Day', watch Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman DVD's, have fires, put stenciling on the walls, and whatever else I want to do. I think we are going to celebrate Valentine's Day tomorrow (Saturday). I plan to finish the baby bootie, make a bowl for a co-worker, and then my mom's sweater. This will be my first sweater. I have the pattern and I'm using size 9 needles. I'm getting her to pick out the yarn now. I'll be using worsted weight yarn and I gave her choices. Those baby leg warmers are hanging over me though. I need to finish those up so I do not feel burdened anymore.

Clutch for Beth

Image
I ended up putting a zipper on the inside because the purse kept flopping open. The zipper was tricky to insert, but totally worked and looks natural. I chose a burgandy color since that is the color at the top so it blends in nicely. I sewed on a wooden button to accessorize. I am mailing it Beth tomorrow.

5K goal

So I have to do a 5K before the end of the month. I went to Classic Race Services http://www.runningintheusa.com/crs/ for a list of race dates. I've ran about 25-30 5K's in my life, several 10K's, two half-marathons, and two triathlons. There were several races that I am interested in doing this month. Heck, I may do them all! February 13 Spartan 5K February 20 Habitat for Humanity 5K February 27 Barrow Boogie 5K I'm posting it here for accountability. Joe, can I do them? RLWH

One baby bootie down, one to go

Ahhh Choo!

I started getting a cold on Saturday and have been sneezing ever since. I went back and forth regarding taking a sick day. I've accumulated over 20 sick days and never use them. Last week I told Joe that I needed a snow day or sick day. He said I need to be careful what I wish for! I posted my lesson plans for my team and attached some for the substitute as well. My class will be crazy no matter how well I plan and strategetically choose a substitute. I'll not only use the day to get well, but relieve stress, especially after last week.

Blocking

Image
is the process of relaxing fibers and getting your fabric to the correct dimensions before sewing and felting. I finished Beth purse last night. Now I am blocking it. I plan on sewing up the sides and felting it tonight. All I will have left is cutting a button hole and buying a button. I could get it in the mail to her by Tuesday probably. I also started the baby booties and they seem like they are going to be easy. I learned two stitches while working on them m1 (make one) and kfb (knit front & back). Joe and I both went to the dermetologist on Friday afterschool. I signed him up for a full body exam because he has pale skin with freckles. His biological father has had skin cancer on his face so I wanted to take precautionary measures. They found some precancerous spots on his neck and face. They scraped and froze those off. I went in for a mole on my thigh coming out of my birthmark and a "cist-like" bump on my arm. She said, "Let's take 'em off!" B

Tuesdays *sigh*

Image
I take an Exceptional Child class from 4:00pm-9:00pm on Tuesday evenings after school. The day is so  l o n g. Thankfully tonight, we were dismissed an hour early so I arrived home sooner than usual. My husband had to work out of town so the dogs went to daycare all day. Since I get home late on Tuesdays, they stay at Pawtropolis overnight. I will pick them up after school on Wedensday. I appreciate the "quiet time", but I do miss them when they are away. I called to check on them and the staff said that Fisher jumped the fence to go in his own kennel to nap/rest. It is not unusual for him to jump the walls to join other play groups, but I guess this is the first time he separated himself from everyone for "quiet time". The next project I plan to start soon is a pair of baby booties for a co-worker. She is having a girl on February 19 so I would like to have them completed before the baby is born. I may have to set down the purse and legwarmer to get that compl
Monday night is my favorite night of the week so I can prop my feet up to relax watching The Bachelor. I usually have a fire or candles lit. My friend Beth from Pennsylavania and I used to watch and text each other at the same time. She doesn't get abc in her apartment anymore so she has to watch on the website the next day and then send me a message on fb. When my husband is home, he usually watches with me. I'm content having "alone time" too. I can't believe that I got home at 6:30pm tonight. Teaching Pathways until 5:00pm is bad enough and then running errands in rush hour afterwards takes a toll on your spirit. Let's just say that The Bachelor will be appreciated more than ever! I hope to do some mindless knitting prior to bedtime to stitch away my worries.  Off to nourish the body. RLWH
